Before & After School Programs

Before & After School Programs in Mat-Su and Anchorage

The YMCA’s provision of child care services is not just a service but a fundamental aspect of our mission. We deeply understand and appreciate the necessity for robust, values-driven school-age child care within our communities, both in Mat-Su and Anchorage.

In our Before & After School Programs, we prioritize instilling the YMCA’s four core values: CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT, and RESPONSIBILITY. These values serve as the cornerstone of our approach, guiding every interaction, program, and activity we offer.

By emphasizing these core values in our Before & After School Programs, we aim not only to meet the immediate child care needs of families but also to contribute to the long-term character development and success of the children we serve. Thank you for entrusting us with the care and education of your child.

WE CAN HELP!

The YMCA of ALASKA is a nonprofit, community-based, health and human services organization that is committed to helping people achieve their full potential in spirit, mind and body. The YMCA’s Open Doors program is available to people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and incomes.
Each year the YMCA provides thousands of dollars in financial assistance to our community members in need. These funds are made possible through the generous donations from our members of the Helping Hands Club.

Joining the Helping Hands Club involves the participation of active YMCA members who generously contribute an extra $8 each month, supplementing their standard membership fees. This crucial financial support directly contributes to the enhancement of the financial assistance programs at the YMCA of Alaska, enabling families in need to access and benefit from the YMCA’s range of services and programs.

That’s why the YMCA of Alaska offers the Open Doors scholarship program. Thanks to charitable contributions, the Y’s scholarship program is a sliding fee scale designed to fit each individual’s financial situation. Our scholarship program can be applied to membership and programs like summer camp and youth sports.

    It all began …………

When community leaders, parents, educators, and citizens noticed challenges faced by Mat-Su Valley residents. This group realized the lack of resources for fitness, youth development, and social interaction was hindering community well-being. Motivated to make a positive impact, they worked to bring YMCA services to Mat-Su Valley. They believed YMCA could transform the community by providing a safe space for individuals and families while encouraging community engagement. In 2018, the YMCA of Alaska formed an Advisory Board for Mat-Su YMCA, marking the start of program development. Today, Mat-Su YMCA leads various initiatives, including Tanaina Elementary’s before and after-school program, engaging Day Camps, and comprehensive swim lessons, all aimed at enriching the community’s growth
