ACTIVE YOUTH

Welcome to the YMCA of Alaska, where kids’ fitness meets fun and learning!

Our YMCA is dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive environment where children can thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally. With a wide range of programs throughout the year tailored specifically for kids, we aim to instill healthy habits from a young age and inspire a lifelong love for fitness and well-being.

This fall, we are excited to introduce our new program, “Healthy Weight and Your Child.” Designed for parents and kids to participate together, this program focuses on addressing the unique needs of children struggling with weight-related issues. Together, families will learn about fostering healthy habits, promoting positive body image, and making informed choices about nutrition and physical activity.

Led by certified instructors and nutrition experts, “Healthy Weight and Your Child” offers a supportive and engaging environment where families can learn, play, and grow together. Through a combination of fun activities, educational workshops, and personalized coaching, participants will develop the skills and confidence they need to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.

At the YMCA of Alaska, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. Whether your family is looking to improve fitness, build friendships, or learn valuable life skills, we’re here to support you every step of the way. Join us throughout the year and embark on a journey to a healthier, happier future, together!

Why create old habits when they die hard in the first place? Empower your kids and teens to embark on their fitness journey early with a YMCA membership, fostering lifelong healthy habits!

Prior to utilizing our fitness center, it is encouraged to complete a fitness orientation and ActivTrax activation. For children aged 10-12, a parent must be physically present, actively assisting them with their ActivTrax workout. For ages 12-14, a parent must accompany their child in the fitness center, offering guidance throughout their workout. Children should continue their ActivTrax recommended exercise program. From 14-16 years old, parents are not required to be present in the fitness center. This age group will enjoy full access to our fitness floor after completing a fitness equipment skills check or undergoing a new orientation and ActivTrax fitness evaluation.

$20 payable during the appointment registration. To schedule your youth orientation, please email crystalee@ymcaalaska.org.
