SPORTS DEPARTMENT MESSAGE # 907-406-7957

What equipment does my child need?

Every participant will receive an official YMCA soccer jersey, soccer shorts, soccer socks, soccer ball, and shinpads.  Soccer balls will be available at the first official practice from the coach.

Jerseys will be distributed at the first official game. Participants will need to supply a good pair of gym shoes or soccer cleats.  Soccer cleats are highly recommended for outdoor Alaskan Summer weather.  They may be purchased locally at Walmart, Fred Meyers, Target, etc. or online.

What days and times are practice?

All games and practices will be at the YMCA of Alaska soccer fields on Lake Otis.  The fields are located behind the main building on Lake Otis.  Parking and traffic can be very hectic, please park in the back and be respectful of others.  Parents, please be aware of foot traffic during the season.  SLOW DOWN and drive very cautious while on the premises.  All practices will be before games.  Specific days are assigned to each specific league.  There are no practices or games during the weekends.  All soccer teams will be on a rotating soccer time schedule during the season.  Every team is guaranteed 10 games throughout the season.  Every team will have a bye week:  which means some weeks you may only play one game, instead of two games.  Times are 5:45-7:00 or 7:15-8:30.  All teams will be allotted a 30 minute practice session before the official game time of 40 minutes.

It's raining, do we still have games?

We play rain, shine, and snow. Parents use your best judgement when deciding if the roads are safe.
