Adjusting to a newly diagnosed condition and undergoing treatment can be an overwhelming and challenging journey. However, finding support and resources to navigate this process can make a significant difference. The YMCA is an organization that offers valuable assistance during these times of need. With a range of programs and services tailored to individual needs, the YMCA can provide a supportive community, guidance, and opportunities for physical and emotional well-being. From specialized exercise classes to educational workshops, the YMCA focuses on empowering individuals to manage their conditions and improve their overall quality of life. Through engaging in these programs, individuals can connect with others going through similar experiences, share their stories, and receive encouragement and advice. The YMCA serves as a beacon of hope, compassion, and strength for those facing the challenges of a new diagnosis and treatment.
Maintaining your home
We understand that keeping up with your homeownership duties can be hard to do, and we want to help
you with some of that. Some ideas of what we can help you with could be helping with an online order
of groceries that we would pick up and put away for you. Light housework is always a favorite, and we
are happy to help with that. We can also help with lawn work, snow removal, pick up your mail, take
packages to the post office, remind you of the bills coming due, or pick up your prescriptions.
Getting to & from appointments
If you have an appointment coming up and have not been able to find a ride, we can help you take careof that. We will look at all options available in our community, and if none of them are going to work, wewill give you a ride to and from that appointment. How about once you have a health aid coming tohelp? We will still be there for you! Your aid can focus on your medical needs while we focus on your social and emotional needs. You do not need to do this alone! If you or someone you love is in need of help due to a medical condition, please register at the front desk and we will contact you to develop a plan that will help make your life just a little bit easier.
Need some social interaction?
We will call you every week to see how you are doing. If you need someone to come over to spend an
hour talking, we will do that. Do you want to get out of the house but are unsure where to go or what
to do? We can find fun things for you to do here at the YMCA. Once here, you can take a dip in our
pool, play a game of cards with others, or have a cup of coffee and chat. In addition, we will have
weekly meet and greets to get to know some other people in the community with the same day-to-day
struggles.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Support during treatment or recovery is crucial for individuals working towards overcoming challenges and rebuilding their lives. There are several ways in which we help during this phase of their journey. Firstly, we educate ourselves about their specific condition to gain a better understanding of what they are going through. This knowledge allow us to offer informed and empathetic support. Secondly, we provide a safe and non-judgmental space for them to express their feelings and concerns. Active listening and offering words of encouragement can make a significant difference. Additionally, offering practical assistance, such as helping with daily tasks, transportation to appointments, or even accompanying them to support group meetings, and doctors appointments can lighten their load and demonstrate commitment to their wellbeing. Lastly, respecting their boundaries and decisions, and avoiding enabling behaviors, will contribute to their growth and self-sufficiency. Remember, your support can be a lifeline for someone in treatment or recovery, offering hope and motivation during challenging times.

If you are a referring Dr, you can be confident your patient will be enrolled in specialized programs designed specifically for individuals with chronic conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, or cancer. These programs typically involve a personalized exercise plan, nutritional guidance, and support from trained professionals.
Living with a chronic condition can be challenging, but it doesn’t mean that making positive lifestyle changes is impossible. In fact, it’s even more crucial for individuals with chronic conditions to prioritize their health and well-being. If you find yourself in need of some extra motivation, ask us about our Medical Memberships.
