Founded in 1967, the Anchorage Community YMCA is the only YMCA in the State of Alaska. Despite our name, the Y is not just young people, not just for men and not just for Christians. As a non profit serving the Anchorage community we embrace people of all ages, races, incomes, faiths and ethnic backgrounds. Every day we are committed to building strong kids, strong families and a stronger community. This objective is put into practice everyday at our facility on Lake Otis Pkwy and the nine Anchorage School District Elementary Schools where we offer before and after school programs. From child-watch for preschool/toddlers, school age programs, youth and adult sports, fitness and skill programs, swimming lessons, summer youth camps in Anchorage, youth resident camp near Talkeetna and collaborations with other local agencies we are working hard to serve the community of Anchorage.
Y Membership
We serve over 4,500 youth and adults annually with membership, members have access to all the YMCA facilities and programs that are offered at the YMCA for free or at a reduced cost.
Y School Age Child Care
We served over 400 youth in before & after care at nine elementary schools: Eagle River Elementary; Baxter Elementary; Northern Lights Elementary; Bayshore Elementary; Kincaid Elementary; Bowman Elementary; Kasuun Elementary; College Gate Elementary; Tudor Elementary
Y Basketball
We serve over 1,500 youth in our instructional and competitive basketball leagues, it is the largest youth program in the State of Alaska! In addition, over 200 adult men & women participate in our 30 & over and 40 & over leagues.
Y Teens
We serve over 120 teens weekly at our Saturday Night Live program. The Y shuts down at 9:00 PM and then opens back up from 9:30 – 11:30 PM for local teens to have a positive place to be.
Y Swim Lessons
We serve over 400 youth a year with the life saving skills of swimming. We also provide adult swim lessons!
Y Soccer
489 youth in our youth soccer leagues and clinics. A family friendly program with all games & practices designed to take place at the Janice K. Flood Park sports fields at the YMCA.
Y Resident Camp
Our summer camp children go annually to the YMCA Camp Peggy Lake, a 360 acre rustic overnight camp near Talkeetna, Alaska. Camping, outdoor cooking, hiking, canoeing, campfires and more!!
Y Day Camp
We serve 230 children every summer in our full time day camp program at sites in Anchorage and Eagle River. Songs, games, arts & crafts, swim lessons, field trips and character development.
Y Water Fitness
We serve hundreds of adults with water aerobic classes and water therapy classes for people with arthritis, MS and joint replacement.
Y Personal Training
We serve hundreds of adults and youth with strength training, cardio training, yoga, martial arts, circuit training and more!
Y Child Watch
We serve dozens of preschool age children on daily basis, enabling moms’ & dads’ to continue to live a healthy life style.
Special Events
Additionally throughout the year with special events…….we serve over 300 youth during our Healthy Kids Day events. This event is part of a national initiative combined with YMCA Activate America. Events include free swim lessons, soccer clinic and fitness challenges at the YMCA and local elementary schools. Other special events include Halloween at the Y, Learn to Swim Week, February Indoor Triathlon.
